What are cookies?
Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website or use an application. Cookies are then sent back to the originating web domain on your subsequent visits to that domain. Most web pages and application contain elements from multiple web domains so when you visit e.g. http://www.blacknwa.com/ your browser may receive cookies from several sources.
Cookies are useful because they allow a website and application to recognize a user’s device. Cookies allow you to navigate between pages efficiently, remember preferences and generally improve the user experience. They can also be used to tailor advertising to your interests through tracking your browsing across websites.
Session cookies are deleted automatically when you close your browser/application and persistent cookies remain on your device after the browser/application is closed (for example to remember your user preferences when you return to the site).

Use of IP addresses and web logs
We may also use your IP address and browser type to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer our website/Application and to improve the service we offer to you. An IP address is a numeric code that identifies your computer on the internet. Your IP address might also be used to gather broad demographic information.
We may perform IP lookups to determine which domain you are coming from (e.g. google.com) to more accurately gauge our users’ demographics.
E-mail subscriptions and contact forms
Once you have provided CAE with your e-mail address through subscribing to receive information from CAE or submission of a contact form, some of our marketing related emails will contain a single, campaign-unique “web beacon pixel” to tell us whether the email we sent was opened. CAE leverages third-party services for the management of e-mail campaigns which include tracking technologies to enhance the user experience.
Web Beacons
Web beacons, which are also known as clear GIFs, Web bugs or pixel tags, are often used in combination with cookies. They are images (often transparent) that are part of Web pages or web enabled email messages. They are not used to access personal data, but this information may be connected to your identity at CAE. Unlike cookies, you cannot decline Web beacons on your computer, but you can still take measures to control their use.
If you do not wish the pixel to be activated by your viewing of email content, there is a way to configure your email reader to achieve this.
- Google Mail (gmail) has a documented feature, which you can find at the link below
- If you use Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird email client software, you can read one of the links below to find out your privacy options
- If you use another service or email client, we encourage you to look it up through your favorite Internet search engine
Other tracking technologies
CAE emails also includes other tracking technology verifying any clicks through links within the email.
CAE will use this information for purposes such as determining which of our emails are more interesting to you and to query whether users who do not open our emails wish to continue receiving them.
Cookies policy does not cover third party websites/Application
Please note that this Cookies policy does not apply to, and we are not responsible for, the privacy practices of third party websites/Application, which may be linked to or accessible through CAE websites/Applications.
Changes to the Cookies policy
We may update this Cookies policy and we would encourage you to review the policy from time to time to stay informed of how we are using cookies. This Cookies policy was last updated in May 2020.
